Clinic day #2 went amazingly well!
The community we traveled to was Chiang Dao. We had lots of sweet elderly patients that day! Let's go over numbers: 46 Reading Glasses were handed out. 60 patients saw medical. 12 went to dental. 124 RX (prescriptions) were given. 30 Salvations. After clinic in Mae Taeng - Kuet Chang, our group headed over to an Elephant Care Camp.
We got there only to discover that we were suppose to have made reservations to see the elephants. Thankfully the caretakers, after hearing that we were a medical relief team helping their people, they were kind enough to let us see them. First clinic day!! This morning we all hopped into the van at 6:30 a.m. Our destination was a village called, Mae Hud. It was a 3 hour car ride. Some of us team members had to switch to the back of a Song Thaew because the van wouldn’t be able to make it over the extremely hilly parts on the road.
I will have to say that was the BEST car ride I have ever had! Sure we got dusty, but the experience was AMAZING!! Today we saw 55 patients. Our team is surely looking forward to more clinic days! Today was our very first clinic day. We were out in one of the villages 3 hours drive away from our hotel.
It was a rather slow day and not that many patients. Many were farmers and they were out working in the fields. There were many children hanging around the village that we were working in. Unfortunately not enough children for the government to establish a school. Many of the kids were either sitting in the shade watching us or in the kitchen talking. When things were quiet and we had no patients for a while, Pastor Tad asked me if I could do a game with the village children. I wasn’t really thinking or didn’t take him literally and said yes. He said we could also sing a song to the kids and I surprised him by singing a few lines of a song Dad taught me in Thai. The song is, “This is the day that the Lord has made.” He started calling a big group of kids over and I started to panic because I didn’t have any proper game supplies. Then some young Thai adults were setting up some chairs in a circle and we were thinking of the same game, musical chairs! I was still panicking because I didn’t have any music on me to play. I asked Pastor Tad if he had any music on his phone that we could use. He looked me straight in the eye and replied, “You can sing in Thai, “This is the day that the Lord has made.” I was horrified at first. I am not a singer and singing in Thai, which is a “second” language, is not my thing. Thankfully, a guitarist and guitar was presented and everyone was clapping and singing along. Thank you Dad for teaching me that song all those years ago!! ❤️ This morning we set our alarms for 3:40 a.m. We had to meet our group down in the lobby at 4:20 a.m., no later. Our team flew out to Chiang Mai at 6:00 a.m.
We were only in the air for about an hour. After landing, we met up with the Hope Church group. Had a bit of an orientation and went out for an amazing lunch! After 22 hours of flying, not including 10 hours in airports, we have safely arrived in Thailand for a 2 week medical mission trip with CERT International.
Thank you so much for your prayers. Please continue to pray that hearts will be open and that the CERT Medical team will have many opportunities to share Christ’s light and love to others. |
