Today we drove over 3 hours to one of my English Students’ hometown.
Omkoi District is one of many hometowns nestled deep in the mountains of the Karen Tribal Group. One of my close Thai friends, brought me to visit her hometown and all the different places where she grew up as a little girl!
We were able to get the full experience by dressing up in the traditional clothing of the Karen tribal group. Tonight I had the University Students complete a Scavenger Hunt.
They had a list of 50 things to find. The theme of the Scavenger Hunt was Textures. One of the items they had to find was a feather. I got really concerned though. At the time, with the rate that my students were going, I could just picture them making a trip to the chicken coop to pluck some feathers off of the chickens in order to complete the assignment. Thankfully they didn’t. The Lord has blessed me greatly with such phenomenal friends!
Looking forward to serving with you all in ministry for many more weeks to come! Chapter 19, Beginning in Thailand!! For English with some of the University students today, I used music.
I printed off two Christian songs and cut the lyrics into strips. I divided the students into two teams. They had to listen to the song assigned to them and put the lyrics in order to how it was sung. First to finish got prizes. Today was the first time that they called me อาจารย์, which translates into Teacher/Professor. Today was the first day of teaching University.
Please pray that God will give me wisdom with how best to present English to them. All of them are at different levels with English, which makes it challenging for preparing lessons. Also please pray that I will get over Jet Lag. Unfortunately I have been running on 3 hours of sleep the last couple of days. Thank you for your prayers and support! |
